Pioneering oboist Christopher Redgate is releasing New Music For A New Oboe vol.2 featuring Sam Hayden’s surface/tension on 13th July and to celebrate we’ve got a copy of the CD up for grabs in our CE Club Prize Draw!
A trail-blazing performer for nearly 40 years, Redgate has been redesigning the key-work of the oboe and, in collaboration with Howarth of London, developed the Howarth-Redgate system oboe for contemporary music performance. The works on this disc which also feature the Coull Quartet and Stephen Robbings were created through strong collaboration by artist and composers Christopher Fox, Dorothy Ker, Edward Cowie, Paul Archbold and Sam Hayden. Areas explored here include the extreme high range, various microtonal divisions and multiphonics – a repertoire of sounds and techniques for which the new instrument was designed with the intention, not only of meeting today’s demands, but also of building further potential into the instrument – and the results are fascinatingly varied. Truly cutting-edge music for today.
The CD is released on the Métier label by Divine Arts and Christopher Redgate is joined by pianist Stephen Robbings for the oboe and piano version of Sam Hayden’s Surface/Tension.divineartrecords.com 21stcenturyoboe.com Sam Hayden Profile & Works
