We’re delighted to welcome Vykintas Baltakas to Composers Edition. A recipient of numerous high profile international awards, Baltakas’ works have been commissioned and performed by leading orchestras and ensembles across Europe include Ensemble Modern, musikFabrik, Klangforum Wien, WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He is also a sought-after conductor with leading orchestras and ensembles and has collaborated with composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen, Peter Eötvös, Georg Friedrich Haas and Dieter Schnebel.
His view of musical composition and conducting is one of reciprocity. He says that both as a composer or conductor;
You can influence it, suggest ideas, give it direction, make decisions. You give impulses but you also receive impulses back from the music that you then process again and which then reflects back.
An initial selection of works available through Composers Edition include Sandwritting II, premiered this month with SWR Symphonieorchester in Stuttgart, Recitativo, commissioned by the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium and Commentum for cello and orchestra, commissioned by the Lithuanian Composers’ Union and Vilnius Festivals. We look forward to making more of his works available soon. To keep up to date with new releases from Vykintas Baltakas and get a discount on all Composers Edition publications join CE Club.
On joining Composers Edition, Baltakas says;
For many years I have been working with big traditional publishing houses and most of my works have been published there. However, I have increasingly felt the need for a new and modern vision for music publishing: new in relation to the actual economic reality, needs and habits of both living composers and performers today. It seems to me that Composers Edition is going this way and I am very happy to joining today.
