Kevin Malone CE Profile & Works
What do YOU think about Donald Trump? Kevin Malone’s latest work, “The People Protesting Drum Out Bigly Covfefe” was commissioned by concert pianist Adam Swayne as a 10-minute companion piece to Rzewski’s “Four North American Ballads” for a concert on 15 February at the Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, Manchester. When Swayne asked if the work could be an anti-Trump statement, Malone proceeded to video record his attendance at protest rallies in the USA and UK, and transcribed the recordings of witty and angry protest chants into musical notation which form the basis of this piano fantasy. The pianist has an option to wear a pink pussycat and involve the audience at the end — who knows exactly what will transpire with each performance? And what exactly is meant by “covfefe”? “The People Protesting” will be recorded on CD on the Coviello label later in 2018.
