Tonia Ko Tangram Collective Premiere & Koussevitzky Music Foundation Commission

Tonia Ko

Tonia Ko’s new commission by Tangram Collective will be premiered on Saturday 29 January at LSO St Luke’s in the ‘Tangram: Lunar New Year Premieres’ concert.

Tangram is a London-based music collective, developing a transnational community by creatively celebrating Chinese cultures. Tangram’s compositions and performances delve into the joys and multiplicity of transnational Chinese experience, encouraging audiences to engage in nuanced cultural exchange and deep listening across perceived borders.

This concert features critically acclaimed singer-song writer Emmy The Great and pop artist Mantawoman. The programme centres around transnational collaborations, featuring premieres of new works by Tonia Ko and Vivian Fung, and an array of Chinese folk songs displaying the richness of Chinese historical and contemporary cultures.

More good news for this New Year, Tonia Ko has been awarded a commission from the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress. Tonia’s Koussevitzky commission will result in a new, large-scale concerto for amplified bubble wrap, featuring Ko as soloist, with the NYC-based 23-musician group Contemporaneous.

Many congratulations to Tonia! We can’t wait to hear these new pieces and publish them in due course!
