Adrienne Morgan has commissioned this piece to stand as her legacy, in the face of her diagnosis of incurable secondary breast cancer.
Written by award winning composer Alison Willis, and inspired by the life of Adrienne Morgan, the piece entitled ‘A Light Not Ready To Go Out’, is truly a celebration of life, love, togetherness and hope. Whilst written to be sung together, each movement can also be sung separately.
Particularly touching is the libretto of the second movement – where the lyrics have been crowd source the lyrics from Adrienne’s friends and family. This worked to capture Adrienne’s incredible strength and personality, as a scientist, campaigner, sister, aunt, and so much more to many people.
As a whole, the piece emphasises the sustaining power of family and friends when living with breast cancer and the ambition is for choirs to sing and perform the piece to raise funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Now.
Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity. And they are determined to stop this devastating disease from taking lives, by funding cutting-edge research. They believe, that if we all act now, by 2050, everybody who develops breast cancer will live – and live well. By singing this piece, you are joining Adrienne and Breast Cancer Now in turning that vision into a reality.
The premiere will take place on Tuesday 20 March at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, London performed by the London Concert Choir
It is available in four versions:
SSA Choir and Piano, SATB Choir and Piano, Simplified One-Part Choir, Simplified Two-Part Choir
