Signum Quartet Performance of Rob Fokkens ‘glimpses of a half-forgotten future’ on Deutschlandfunk Kultur

Rob Fokkens, Windsor 21st December 2012

Rob Fokkens’ glimpses of a half-forgotten future for string quartet is being recorded by the Signum Quartet in their Fragments of an eternity concert, in Rostock on Sunday 2 May. This concert will be broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Kultur as Konzertdokument der Woche on Sunday 13 June 2021, 21:05 (local time).

The Signum Quartet have performed this piece in Cardiff, Germany and South Africa in the past. I’ve also contributed to their innovative “quartweet” and “Beetweet” projects, with the latter piece being broadcast on Bayerische Fundrunk last August.

glimpses of a half-forgotten future started life as a one-movement piece for clarinet quartet, premiered at the Park Lane Group Concert Series at the Purcell Room in 2009 by the Clariphonics. When I was commissioned to write a piece for the Carducci Quartet in 2012, I arranged this movement for string quartet and added another two movements to bring the piece to its current form. The Carducci’s premiered it in 2012 in Cardiff.
