Rubens Askenar Joins Composers Edition

Composers Edition is delighted to welcome London-based Canarian composer Rubens Askenar, joining us with an initial selection of 16 works for a wide range of forces from solo, through chamber, choir, ensemble to orchestra.  His creative output encompasses all kinds of genres and forms, emerging from the experimentation and creation of compositional models based on multi-instrumental practice and technological development.  The results of his close attention to the sonic possibilities of instruments are both finely nuanced and highly engaging.

“…Rubens’ music appeals to the most primitive instincts and manages to show that it is possible to create authentic wonders with non-normative elements”

Núvol Magazine (Barcelona)

Recent commissions (2018) include ‘ElevenOnce’ – a 50 minutes long piece for orchestra, composed in real time inside a 30 metres tall oil tank, commissioned by Keroxen Festival. A large symphonic piece commissioned by SGAE and AEOS to be premiered by Tenerife Symphony Orchestra in Santiago Calatravas’ concert Hall Auditorio de Tenerife. A chamber piece for acclaimed London-based ensemble Chroma, responding to their concert series ‘Awakening’. A series of audiovisual and reactive installations that explore tangible interactions between physical and digital players, as well as an implementation of these installations ideas in a series of concertante situations in collaboration with experimental international ensemble Resilence.

“Great to join Composer Edition. It is an honour to be part of this community of artists and to be supported by such a sensitive and responsive team of professional music editors.”
