John Palmer has been commissioned a new work based on J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations by the 2021 Zwischen Zeiten Symposium.
In conjunction with the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg the 2021 Zwischen Zeiten Symposium will focus on J.S. Bach’s majestic Goldberg Variations and will offer a series of lectures and concerts including commissions of new works inspired by this masterpiece.
The Symposium has commissioned John Palmer to compose a new trio for flute, percussion and piano which will be based on the Aria of the Goldberg Variations. The new piece will be performed by the Rumanian Trio Contraste (Ion Bogdan Ștefănescu – flute, Sorin Petrescu – piano, Doru Roman – percussion). The premiere is scheduled to take place at the University of Music of Dresden in April 2021 and will be followed by a CD release featuring the Trio Contraste.

We at Composers Edition look forward to hearing this new piece by John Palmer and publishing it in due course.
