Martin Bussey’s Whitman cycle Children of Adam will be performed on Friday 12 November 6pm at Milton Court Concert Hall Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This is part of Guildhall’s ‘Songs at Six’ series which features current students focusing on settings of Walt Whitman in a programme entitled ‘I Sing the Body Electric’ devised by Iain Burnside.
The following week, Matthew Schellhorn will perform Martin Bussey’s Floreat Coll Reg in his piano recitals focused on Howells’ Piano Music taking place Friday 19 November 6pm at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge and Saturday 20 November 4pm at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.
Matthew Schellhorn commissioned Floreat Coll Reg and premiered it at Three Choirs Festival last July where it was enthusiastically received by the audience. Each movement of the work is modelled on similar works by Howells and composed in tribute to Philip Radcliffe and Philip Ledger, two musicians key to Martin’s musical development when at Cambridge. Martin comments:
It’s great to have these pieces ‘come home’ as it were, to the heart of Cambridge.
