We’re delighted to welcome Italian composer Mario Pagotto. Principally known in Italy where his music has been widely performed and recorded. He has received commissions from Symphony Orchestra “G. Verdi ” Milan, Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai di Torino, the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, by Ex Novo Ensemble for Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Virtuoso Soloists of New York and Klavierhaus New York amongst others.
Pagotto’s work has been described by critic and musicologist Paolo Maurizi as displaying “a many-sided range of colours and styles, which are often gathered from clearly recognisable experiences: from the Stravinskyan rhythmic tension to minimalistic processes, from the early 20th century French music to pop music… everything is reinvented according to a strong formal discipline.. which endows a simplicity and an immediacy to his work.”
I‘m very excited about my new adventure at Composer Edition. I have always had great admiration for the ancient and recent English musical production and for the extraordinary organization that has always characterized this part of northern Europe. So I am very pleased to join CE and I thank my friend Joe Cutler who been my mentor in this new phase of my artistic activity.
The next performance of Pagotto’s dafne for soprano, violin, piano, percussion and strings inspired by the Metamorphoses of Publio Ovidio Nasone will be performed in the finale of the 37th Portogruaro International Music Festival by The Academy of Arches conducted by Domenico Mason with Soprano Natasa Trcek, pianist Arrigoni Gloria Campaner and violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen.
