Lynne Plowman Joins Composers Edition

Lynne Plowman Catching Shadows for orchestra

Lynne Plowman Catching Shadows for orchestra, premiered by BBC National Orchestra of Wales

We’re delighted to announce that Lynne Plowman has joined the Composers Edition cohort.  Her compositions range from delicate instrumental solos to dramatic large-scale vocal, theatrical and orchestral works. Commissioners and collaborators include Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the London Mozart Players, Presteigne Festival, Piano Circus, UPROAR, Okeanos, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Singers.

As Lynne explains, she’s busy with a number of current projects:

This year has been a busy one – my latest commissions are Woman Dreaming of Escape for mezzo soprano (Lucy Schaufer) and string trio, commissioned by violinist, Miranda Fulleylove (the premiere is at Smedmore House in Dorset on 14th October).  A couple of weeks later sees the launch of UPROAR – a brand new contemporary music ensemble for Wales – I’m thrilled to be one of ten Wales-based composers who have been commissioned to compose new works for their launch event at Chapter in Cardiff on 26th October.  My piece for them is short and wild and titled UP.  Later this autumn I’ll be working on two new pieces for premieres next year – one is a piece for fairground organ, commissioned by the Vale of Glamorgan Festival and the other is a new octet for the Berkeley Ensemble.

Recording-wise, Prima Facie Records have begun recording a collection of my duos and solos composed for percussion, piano, flute, voice and harp.  This will be my first ‘solo’ CD, so I’m very excited about that too.

I’m really excited to join Composers Edition and be part of this forward-thinking organisation.  It’s a great opportunity to consolidate my catalogue and look to the future.

We’re pleased to present an initial 10 works for orchestra, piano, ensemble, percussion duo and voice(s):

Songs of the Sea Dreamer for tenor and harp
Silver Moon for chamber ensemble
white stars green leaves for solo soprano, improvising vocalist, chime in D and SAB choir
Blue for orchestra
The Mariner’s Compass for double choir
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari a live accompaniment to the seminal 1919 German expressionist silent film, ‘The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari’, for large ensemble
Rain for percussion duo
Lullaby for Ianto for piano
K-Ras for two sopranos and two counter-tenors
Catching Shadows for orchestra
