Jane Stanley’s Firefly Reflection will be premiered in its solo clarinet version by Alex South at Bell Pettigrew Museum, University of St Andrew’s on Thursday 23 May.
Firefly was composed originally for solo flute in 1999. This version for clarinet was prepared especially for Alex South in 2018.
It features agile, virtuosic flourishes. Permeating the piece is a darting, staccato motif which reflects the short, rhythmic flashes of light so characteristic of fireflies’ mating ritual.
Alex South’s concert will feature music for clarinet and electronics combined with whale and birdsong.
Composers Edition is proud to publish Jane Stanley’s music scores, including Firefly, which is available for purchase through our website.
