On Friday 4 October Sebian harpist Milana Zarić is giving the first performance of James Erber new harp piece in two movements, Sonata on “Laudis Sacrificium Summe” in York, followed by a second performance on Saturday 5 October in Gwytherin, supported by the Nights Out Scheme.
As well as principal harpist at the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra Milana Zarić’s performs adventurous new and freely improvised music, working closely with composers including Richard Barrett, Hugo Morales Murguia, Falk Huebner, Teodora Stepančić and Ana Gnjatović.
The Sonata on “Laudis Sacrificium Summe” is based an anonymous Vespers antiphon for two voices from the 13th century Lewes Breviary. The 13 bars which, in modern notation, make up the antiphon are split into five sections of two, four, three, three and one bar respectively. The two short movements which make up my piece both use two partial selections of these five sections.
