Bushra El-Turk’s The Incomplete Sky, a concertino for taegum and orchestra will receive its Paris Premiere on Thursday 9 December 12:30pm with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, conducted by Douglas Boyd with Hyelim Kim on Taegum.
This piece was a co-commission from Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier.
The title for ‘The Incomplete Sky’ came after I wrote the piece, from a poem called The Cypress Broke by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Following a series of fascinating discussions with the soloist Hyelim Kim, laying down our dreams for what this concerto would look like and comparing our vastly different perspectives on the meaning of unity and energies in music, I came across this poem and we both analysed the meaning of the poem and found our artistic exchange reflected in this poem.
