2020 will see the premiere of a major work for two guitars and the recording of Graham Lynch’s complete guitar ensemble oeuvre by the Helsinki Guitar Duo.
Rody van Gemert tells us about the partnership with Graham Lynch;
The first encounter I had with Graham Lynch’s music was in 2013 when I was asked to play Sing, Memory for guitar and harpsichord. During the progress of learning the piece I was delighted to discover that behind the deceivingly simple looking music lay a profound musical world that has convinced and amazed me ever since.
Since then the composer and I have developed a fruitful cooperation resulting in 2017 in the record Ancient Greece, Musical Inspirations (Pilfink records) on which I recorded all of Graham lynch’s solo guitar works up to that date.
This year, together with Jose Casallas with whom we form the Helsinki Guitar Duo, we are preparing a recording with all of Graham Lynch’s works for two or more guitars. There are the duos: Figures from Watteau, Pájaros del Mar and the newly composed Sonata, as well as the trio Naïvement-Rondeau, the quartet Waltz Cocteau and the quintet Serenata Nocturna for which we will join forces with prominent Finnish guitarists such as Mari Mäntylä and Petri Kumela.
Also, a further performance of Selene’s Song will be given by the Flute Project – Paula Thomas, flute, and Franco Maigue, guitar at the Temple de Raincy in France on the 9 February.
