Colin Riley’s multi-sensory piece Songs of Coiled Light will be performed on the 1st March in the Other Abilities festival, Amsterdam. This is a flexible piece for solo bass clarinet, objects and electronics, which explores the idea of music that can be seen and felt as well as heard. The piece can take many forms and is part installation, part performance and part educational experience.

In the version created for Other Abilities, the ongoing set is created of moving object parts to be seen, felt, and heard, which are re-energized at various moments in the day through the impulse of a live performer.

Extracts of this work can be seen in the video below

And a documentary about the development of the work with Sound Festival Scotland can be seen here.

An EP of this is coming out later this year with the piece in several forms (including re-mixes).
