Colin Riley’s exciting May news includes a world première, Lockdown music with NMC music, new works and upcoming recordings
Earth Voices (complete premiére)
On Saturday 14 May the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fredrik Burstedt will give the first performance of all 5 movements of Colin Riley’s Earth Voices, 3:30pm and 4:30pm at Helsingborg Konserthus, Helsingborg, Sweden.
This set of five orchestral pieces is a celebration of the grandeur and fragility of our environment. Since September the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra in Sweden has premiered one piece from the cycle every month. The complete premiere in May sees these pieces placed together: I Luften (Into the Air) – Dans Som Et Barn (Dance Like a Child) – Das Kleinste Spiel der Blätter (The Smallest Play of Leaves) – Vers le Crépuscule (Towards Dusk) – Stone Pulses. The suite also celebrates the diversity and unity of the 5 European counties that connect England and Sweden.
Several of Colin’s blogs chart the process of the creation of Earth Voices from February 2020:
1. Space Around Things
3. Catching The Ideas
4. For The Earth
5. The Next horizon
6. Down To Land
Several pieces of Colin’s have been selected for NMC’s Big Lockdown Survey release this month.
As well as his recent work for solo cello Eawl-Leet, several remixes from his In Place album have been chosen. These are by Ellie Wilson, Sara Belle, Jeevan Rai and Alex Heane.
Hot off the press…
Colin has just completed a set of three piccolo pieces called Toy Machines for flautist Sally Palmer, commissioned by Kew Sunday Afternoon Concert Series at St Annes church Kew. The score will be available on Composers Edition very soon.
Also in the pipeline is a recording of Colin’s Three Palindromic Pieces for violin duet. This was commissioned by violinist Steve Bingham for his next album.
