Christopher Fox’s new work News from nowhere is a commission by the vocal consort Ex Corde for a concert in the Beverley Early Music Festival on 30 May 2021.
This premiere is part of a programme which explores English and European 16th-century vocal music that reflects the religious and political turmoil of the period, as Henry VIII forged a new identity for England alongside Europe.
News from nowhere is a series of bulletins from the mythical island of Utopia, invented by Thomas More in his book Utopia, first published in 1516. More’s book was written in Latin and so most of my piece is sung in Latin, apart from one passage of spoken narration in English.Christopher Fox
