We are delighted with the news of a new album of music by Christopher Fox to be released by Hat Hut Records. The provisional title of the album is This is the wind and it will include Fox’s work of that title, in both the piano trio version and the version specially made for Trio SEV. The CD also includes a new duo for violinist Yael Barolsky and cellist Dan Weinstein. The release date is scheduled to the end of 2021.
Last year Hat Hut records released an album of piano music that Christopher Fox made with John Snijders.
The piano CD was recorded in October 2019 at Abbey Road Studios and features three longer pieces, The Red Studio, More Light, and The Calm of Mountains as well as some shorter works. It was my third album for Hat Hut Records, a Swiss label that specialises in jazz and new composed music.
The new album grows out of a collaboration with a group of musicians in Tel Aviv and, in particular, the violinist Yael Barolsky and the cellist Dan Weinstein. I wrote Planes and folds for Yael and Hieroglyph for Dan so it seemed a good idea to bring them together for a new piece. The working title is Paralogos and I want to make music that takes fragments of other pieces (possibly some of the other pieces on the CD or perhaps music by other composers too) to create something new.Christopher Fox
Christopher Fox is also writing a new work, sweet and salt, for the Riot Ensemble. This new work is a cycle of nine movements for soprano (Sarah Dacey) and an ensemble of five musicians. The premiere is initially scheduled for Saturday 1 May at King’s Place, to be confirmed nearer to the date.
