Charlotte Bray’s Where Icebergs Dance Away will receive its UK premiere on Friday 27 August in the BBC Proms at 7:30pm with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo.
In Where Icebergs Dance Away, I strive to portray the light and beauty of the icy landscape glistening in the sun, exploring musically the contradictory nature of glaciers- stable yet fragile. My work is part influenced by the artwork of Zaria Forman, who paints in pastels from photos taken of icescapes, particularly her work entitled ‘Disco Bay’, also a place I found inspiring during a visit to Greenland in 2016. The piece was commissioned by Westdeutscher Rundfunk for WDR Sinfonieorchester, conducted by Cristian Măcelaru, and premiered in May 2021. I am delighted that Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra will give the UK Premiere of the work in the BBC Proms. It is an incredibly special festival to be part of.
