Two international premieres for Bushra El-Turk in March!
On Sunday 17 March, Murmurations receives its first performance in Athens at the Onassis Cultural Centre as part of Open Day Festival.
Bushra El-Turk tells about the inspiration from birds in murmurations and from Japanese court music to write this work:
I was sent a few photos of birds in murmuration. I was struck by the way the birds danced in the air together in a beautiful, graceful synchronicity and yet, within their make-up each bird was flapping in a highly-charged relentlessness. I was awed by a similar grace and charge about Japanese court music which is the pretext for this piece.
On the 19th, Tmesis receives its World premiere with BBC Symphony Orchestra with conductor Ben Gernon, to open the first night of the BBC Proms 2019 at Dubai Opera House. This work was written for the London Symphony Orchestra through the LSO Discovery Panufnik Young Composers Scheme.
