This season, Bushra El-Turk is working with Streetwise Opera as its Composer in Residence for Middlesbrough. In collaboration with the performers, she will create a new chorus inspired by Britten’s canticle, ‘Abraham and Isaac’. Her composition will be performed at a Middlesbrough Opera Hour in early 2017 and Streetwise Opera 15th anniversary celebration in London in summer 2017.
“The style of music I intend to write would involve the idea of mixing Western classical and Eastern music influences – not just Middle East but as far eastern as India, Korea, Japan and working with musicians of different cultures that way, but also bringing an Eastern element into the Western classical world, which is a challenge I am also excited about.”
