Between 24 – 26 January 2019, Pro Youth Philharmonia embarks on their Beacon of Hope UK tour. They will perform Bushra El-Turk’s Mosaic, alongside other works from both contemporary and traditional repertoires.
Pro Youth Philharmonia was created by Wissam Boustany to be a professional platform and inspiring training experience for young professional musicians and advanced students. Boustany has been leading PYP rehearsals and educational projects through his ‘Method Called Love’, so to inspire young people and harness their full potential on a personal, musical and technical levels.
The collaboration between Bushra El-Turk and Wissam Boustany dates back from 2008, with Marionette for flute and piano. The programming of Bushra El-Turk’s Mosaic in this tour also contributes to Boustany and Pro Youth Philharmonia’s aims to serve as a conduit for nurturing Middle Eastern talent and the creation of collaborations with the UK.
In Mosaic, Bushra El-Turk explores fragmented identities through bursts of quasi-Byzantine chant which gradually become prominent. ‘We are a mosaic of identities in life and in death. In Mosaic I reflect on how borders can be blurred, yet still differences can be immense’.
Composers Edition is proud to publish Bushra El-Turk’s works, which are available for purchase from our website.
