Alison Willis Wins Composition Competition and Works Hit Classical Charts

Alison Willis’ 2019 has started full of great news!

We are delighted to hear that Alison Willis’s work The Wind’s Warning won the Gesualdo Six Composition in the over-22 category and it will be premiered at Cadogan Hall on March 7th. The judging panel featured leading figures of contemporary choral music Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Nigel Short, Kate Johnson, John Rutter and course Owain Park which makes this award a particularly special honour. About the winner piece itself Willis comments:

The piece features wind like vocal sounds in a setting of a dark poem by Ivor Gurney, believed to be the last poem he wrote.

Also, Willis recently had pieces featured in two CDs: Do Not Stand at my Grave And Weep is in Blossom Street’s new album This Day (Naxos) and The Ballad of the Harp Weaver is on Juice Vocal Ensemble’s Snow Queens album (Resonus Classics).

This week, both CDs have entered the Classical Charts: Snow Queens  at 22 and This Day at 11.

Many congratulations!

Do Not Stand at my Grave And Weep score is proudly available through Composers Edition as well as other works by Alison Willis.
