Alison Willis Joins CE ahead of premieres at Women and Words, King’s Place

Composers Edition is delighted to welcome award winning composer Alison Willis, a composer with a particular interest in re-imagining historical sources, issues based work and collaborative working.  Willis’ music which has been performed, recorded and broadcast across the UK and beyond has been described as “intensely moving”, “beautiful yet pragmatic” and “saying what you have to say and then stopping”.

Alison Willis has two premieres on Saturday 21st October 2017 in the Women and Words performance at King’s Place, London.

Women of the WorldThe Captive Dove and Oh! Tell Me Not I Shall Forget (Soprano and Piano) will be performed by soprano Elinor Jane Moran and pianist Elsbeth Wilkes.  ‘Women and Words – Poetry and Music’ (Equator Festival, Women of the World) celebrates remarkable women and their poems: poetry by trailblazing women from the 18th and 19th century will be set to music especially commissioned from selected women composers.

Women poets featured are Phillis Wheatley (the first published African–American poet initially came to America as a slave), Mary Baker Eddy (founder of Christian Science), Anne Brontë, and Elizabeth Margaret Chandler who became the first female writer in the United States to make abolition of slavery her principal theme.
