On Monday 2 May Adam Gorb’s Kol Simcha Suite will receive its US premiere with the Elon Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at Elon University, North Carolina.
Kol Simcha was originally a commission from the London Musici back in 1995 to write a ballet which entered the repertoire of the Rambert ballet company during 1995 – 1997. The title means the Voice of Celebration’ in Hebrew, and much of the material is inspired by klezmer forms, idioms, and performance practise.
In 2021 I made a suite from material from the ballet for Pierrot ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano) plus percussion which was premiered by the Manchester based contemporary music group Psappha in October 2021.
