Thomas Hyde Opera CD Success and Choral Premiere

RES10197 Thomas Hyde: That Man Stephen Ward

RES10197 Thomas Hyde: That Man Stephen Ward

The 2017 CD release of Thomas Hyde’s single man opera That Man Stephen Ward has been very well received, most recently as featured on BBC Radio 3’s Record review.  Performed by baritone Damian Thantrey with George Vass conducting the Nova Music Opera Ensemble, the work takes a satirical almost farcical approach to the infamous Profumo Affair.  Described by the BBC’s Andrew McGregor as “Captivating, Ingenious, Funny, Surprising and Poignant” it focusses on the society osteopath who introduced Christine Keeler (who died recently) to government minister John Profumo – Stephen Ward

You can here Andrew McGregor discuss it with Tom McKinney until 29 January on the bbc website (The discussion starts at 2h37m into the programme)

Described on Planet Hugill as “A brilliant performance in the title role illuminates this fascinating new opera about the Profumo affair” the CD is a Resonus Classics Release.

Thomas Hyde’s new Magnificat was recently premiered at the Brugge Concertgebouw (who also commissioned it) by The Sixteen and Eamonn Dougan who went on to perform it again in Antwerp. We look forward to publishing it and the prospect of a UK premiere soon.
