Ian Stephens’ orchestral fanfare The World In One City is being broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Monday 19 June at 7.30pm in a concert of orchestral and choral glories given by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir James MacMillan in Liverpool’s iconic Metropolitan Cathedral. Recorded in Liverpool on 10 June, the piece is accompanied by Gabrieli’s Sonata pian’ e forte a 8, MacMillan’s Gloria, Messaien’s Les Offrandes oubliées and Poulenc’s Gloria. Tune in here.
Last weekend, Manchester Chamber Choir gave the Northern premiere of Ian’s choral song cycle Cecilia Speaks, conducted by Jonathan Lo. Cecilia Speaks is a setting of three beautiful poems by Isabel Rogers, winner of the 2014 Cardiff International Poetry Competition.
