PRESS RELEASE – for immediate release (23 May 2013)
– Bringing the latest digital technology to professional music publishing
– Composers will benefit from brand new model
Composers Edition is a brand new publishing enterprise which offers professional music publishing – the twenty-first century way.
Founded by Dan Goren and with startup funding from Arts Council England and the Holst and Britten-Pears Foundations, Composers Edition brings the latest digital technologies and economies of scale together to create a viable modern publishing business.
The initial Composers Edition list includes established names including Michael Finnissy, Richard Baker and Sam Hayden, as well as emerging talent such as Charlotte Bray, Ed Bennett and Emily Hall.
Composers Edition is a subscription-based service to professional composers. What differentiates it from the existing model is that composers retain all rights to their work – including 100% copyright and royalties.
Composers provide their own editions of scores and parts which Composers Edition promotes and offers in print, bound in quality branded covers, and for download at market-beating prices.
“Composers Edition offers ready access to professional composers’ own imprints, delivered within days, or downloaded in seconds” says Dan Goren, who brings his unique combination of experience in online development and contemporary music to the new company.
“Our speedy print-on-demand and digital download service means that new works can be available days after the composer has finished composing.
“What’s more, because composers retain all rights to their works, by purchasing through Composers Edition customers are helping to ensure that composers get the maximum return for their skilled creative endeavours”.
“Composers Edition offers professional music publishing the twenty-first century way. It allows composers to take control of the distribution and promotion of their works and benefit from being part of a group of successful composers. On top of all this composers are able to generate income from sales and save on both production costs and time”.

Notes to Editors:
Composers Edition draws on Dan Goren’s particular range of experience. During his tenure at The British Music Information Centre (2000-2004) Dan co-ran the New Voices and Contemporary Voices composer publishing and support schemes. He also headed a groundbreaking digitisation programme which saw thousands of scores and recordings from the BMIC collection made available online for the first time. Dan went on to establish a thriving freelance web development and consultancy business and develop a musical career through a doctoral research in composition at Oxford Brookes University and as brass player most notably on the free improv scene.
