Bernd Asmus joins Composers Edition

Composers Edition is delighted to announce that Bernd Asmus has joined our ranks. “Very happy to join with and open up to the world through CE. I am looking forward to wonderful new encounters and experiences!” says the award-winning German composer who favours rarely used instruments as equal chamber music partners (singing saw, thunder sheet…), and enjoys working with ethnic instruments (biwa, ethnic percussion…).

Bernd Asmus, born in Marburg/Lahn in Germany, has studied classical guitar, music theory and composition with Klaus Huber in Essen and Freiburg. He has attended composition courses in Darmstadt and in Dartington. He has taught at the Musikhochschule of Freiburg, Karlsruhe and, since 2001, in Stuttgart. He has also taught composition in music institutions all-over south-east Asia (Medan, Jakarta, Manila, Hanoi, Bangkok). His music articles have been published by the review Musik & Ästhetik. He has received composition prizes at competitions in Graz (for Malaiische Liebeslieder) and in Guéret (for Knell).

As a composer, he prefers the intimate climate of chamber music formations. He has created several works in collaboration with dance groups. His musical interests for the future are microtonal convolutions, ethnic musical contexts and areas which are still to come as a surprise.

Composers Edition’s initial selection includes vocal pieces and pieces for solo instruments, small ensemble. Have a look at the complete list of his works here.
