Borealis Festival 2018Norwegian ensemble asamisimasa present a late-night programme of works by the British composer Laurence Crane, spanning his early piano works, ensemble pieces recently released by Hubro and a brand new commission for Borealis for film music.

First staged in 2004 Borealis is Norway’s leading festival for experimental Music. Bringing together new musical experiments from Bergen, Norway and around the world, Borealis occupies the city for 5 days each March, taking over the art galleries, concert halls and warehouse spaces, with concerts, installations, talks and films.

asamisimasa was founded in 2001 by musicians sharing a passion and interest in avant-garde music and its history. Since then the ensemble has premiered numerous cross-media works especially written for them, often contextualized with classical repertoire and historical avant-garde work. asamisimasa has collaborated with composers such as Helmut Lachenmann, Mathias Spahlinger, Nicolaus A. Huber, AldoClementi, Alvin Lucier, Brian Ferneyhough, Helmut Oehring, Clemens Gadenstätter, Klaus Lang, Johannes Kreidler, Joanna Bailie, and extensively with cross-media composers such as Simon Steen-Andersen, Øyvind Torvund, Martin Schüttler, Matthew Shlomowitz, and Trond Reinholdtsen. Their first recording, with music written by Simon Steen-Andersen won the Norwegian Grammy Award in 2012 for Best Contemporary Music Album. They won again in 2015 with Neon Forest Space – asamisimasa plays the music of Øyvind Torvund. asamisimasa.com
