Celebrating Restoration: inaugural choral concert with the restored Father Willis organ

The concert will conclude with the Gloria for choir, brass, organ and percussion by John Rutter who was on the staff of the OU Music Department during the 1970s when he wrote it. The rest of the programme has been designed to fit within this instrumental lineup and includes a choral prelude by Bill Strang based on the mediaeval Scottish Hymn to Saint Magnus, organ music by Charles-Marie Widor, and a new arrangement for this evening’s brass and percussion resources of Antiphonary by Liz Lane who is currently tutoring on one of the Music Department’s courses.

The organist will be Paul Daggett. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music and Liverpool University where he was organ scholar at the Anglican Cathedral, Paul is currently Head of Music School at Walton High in Milton Keynes.

Ticket prices, which include a programme, are £12 (£2 under 16) and are available online from Music for All @ SMSG at http://musicforallsmsg.org/whats-on/restoration-celebration. Proceeds from this concert will go towards casework and maintenance of the Willis pipe organ. The concert is expected to be a sell-out so early ticket purchase is advised.
